sign letter of understanding creating
Football skills camp launches Jan. 11
A major milestone has been reached involving two rival minor football associations in Hamilton as the presidents of the Hamilton Minor Football Association and the Hamilton Wentworth Minor Football Association announced the signing of a letter of understanding between the two groups.
Jim Gamble, president of the HMFA, and Brent Howlett, president of the HWMFA, signed the document to create a merger of operations between the two organizations on Jan. 8. A final binding document leading to the creation of a new, broad-based Hamilton football organization, to be named Football Hamilton, will be forthcoming.
The agreement means that the full resources of the two organizations will be combined with those of other partners as the Play Like the Pros Football Camp is launched Saturdays this winter starting Jan. 11 and proceeding Jan. 18 and 25, Feb. 8,15 and 22 and March 8 at Redeemer College Dome, 777 Garner Road in Ancaster. The program runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the cost is $135 for the seven weeks.
Initiated by the HWMFA in 2013, other partners include the CFL Players Association, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Hamilton’s NFL 5on5 Flag, the Catholic Youth Organization, the Hamilton Hurricanes, Sports Specific Training and the Duane Butler Football Academy.
“This powerful combination is very unique in minor sports and will bring together Hamilton’s best football people, coaches and training experience to the youth of our region,” says Joe Sardo, former Toronto Argonaut and HWMFA minor director.
